I agree with OP, the setups have become a burden.

I'm not a fast driver by no means, but it still frustrates me to know that the drivers that beat me by seconds are probably using unrealistic setups. Not to mention things like wheel / chase view, clutch cheat.. but i digress.

I don't see why we don't have server determined setups OPTION. People who enjoy fiddling with setups would not lose anything, and those of us that enjoy an even field could have a place to race.

I understand unlimited setup tweaking may be benefical to testing the physics engine. Why not keep single player as it is, but limit setup options in multiplayer. Win - win?

Limiting setups is the easiest way to enhance the racing experience, ironing out all the bugs from physics will take time.

When I was introduced to LFS i was impressed by the flexibility of setup options. This however should not stand in the way of enjoying LFS. I have a feeling more and more "serious" sim-racers are switching to iRacing..

Quote from brt900 :in real life you CAN shift without the clutch

true, but it requires accurate rev-matching. you can not just forget the clutch and shift away, as in some games

i guess the crashes i was experiencing were due to high res texture packs or some other replaced files.. so it was a false alarm. i really should have used a fresh install for testing, duh.

also, this thread needs moderators bad

Crying about release dates will not help, this subforum is about TESTING

edit: due to poor fps rates i was switching to low res textures -> crashed immediately. i'll do a fresh install.

Lfs crashed, again

AppName: lfs.exe
AppVer: 0.0.0.0
ModName: d3d8.dll
ModVer 1.0.0.1
Offset: 0000527

It seems to do this while changing track or server. Hope this helps. I will continue testing.

Tried with the stable patch and it seems to work fine.

I hope Scawen notices this, as the thread has turned to a spam thread..

System: XP Pro SP2, Athlon 3000+, Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT, G25

so:

hold brake -> click recalibrate -> press in fully -> done

like the opposite of short calibrating?

iirc deadzones can not be saved (they will be reset at boot) even though dxtweak allows you to set them. what i would do is adjust the linearity with dxtweak. i guess it's just trial and error.. i, too, will be forced to deal with this once i get leo's board and hook up a load cell brake..

NFS gets bad publicity here at the forum because of kids requesting ricer stuff for LFS. They see LFS as just another game. Sim racers do not like this. Flamewar ensues.

Don't hate the game, hate the player!

Quote from danthebangerboy :I don't think the OP means a limiter bouncing effect, he is talking about actual damage caused by holding a car on the limiter.

I know, but the rev limiter "mod" has a side effect of turning the engine off if bouncing off the limiter for some time.

Good informative posts!

I am anxiously waiting for the day the devs have time to correct these issues. I _think_ they are not that hard to fix, as the turbo model is "almost there".

The new car has a turbo..

If DFGT is anything like DFP (looks similiar enough), it has a fair amount of resistance also with no force feedback enabled. In normal use, with forces acting on the wheel it is even more difficult to turn quickly, as you have to turn against the force effect and the constant passive resistance.

So, the wheel makes a loud noise and does not want to turn fast.
This is normal!

Also it seems you had/have way too much FF set in Profiler and/or LFS. Too much force makes the wheel go back and forth if you let go of it, especially when combined with smaller degrees of turn.

Hope this helps.

Quote from Hallen :
Another problem with sim brakes, especially while using something like the tennis ball, is the brake pedal wants to spring back with quite a bit of force. Real brake pedals don't do that. The obviously spring back to full up, but not with that much force. Having this force pushing back against your foot makes it much hard to heal toe smoothly. It keeps pushing against your foot and when you roll your foot to hit the gas, the brakes let up some. This leads to jerky braking and tire lockups, etc.

From experience I'd say this is true, interesting..

I wonder if G25 could be modified to reflect this behaviour by weakening the original spring and adding a piece of rubber or whatever to far end of the travel. The brake resistance would then be extremely progressive, and dxtweak could be used to alter the "travel".

Any thoughts?

The "Shift-a" -menu only changes the sound of the car engine. Yes, there are slider for wind and tire noise, but they only affect volume, not tone.

I say this because the road noise is quite "bassy" iirc, this may be a problem to you.

However, as you are an audiophile, you can fix this. At least in this stage, LFS is very open, and you can edit the samples yourself. Apply eq to to them with some editor for example.

oh, Tail -slider controls the lowest part of the engine noise. Also muffler (or whatever it was called) is basically a low cut for exhaust.

Welcome to LFS, have fun and don't pay attention to whiners..

Why not, after tyre physics are perfected and a real automatic transmission added.

1. set everything to 720 degrees.
2. set wheel turn compensation to 1

now lfs adjusts the sensitivity automatically

No I have not levitated, but a few times it has felt like it. The twilight zone between dream and waking consciousness is a weird place..

Also I doubt weed has anything to do with this..
